For almost thirty years, my mother worked at an iconic Italian bakery on the south side of Chicago. When I was old enough to help, I would come to the bakery to help carry out customer's orders to their car, answer the phone, and clean the store front. By age thirteen, I was the only male employee to work in the store and worked alongside my mom every Saturday and Sunday.

When the bakery closed in 2016, I began to bake at home and took culinary classes in high school. My grandmother, Carolyn, who had been known as the baker of the family, helped with perfecting recipes. With grandma's recipes and her success of baking for gatherings and events, Linnert Baking began. With products such as frozen pizza dough and Italian round bread, the little home-based bread company gained a reputation.

After a few setbacks that most people would have walked away from, I was determined to keep my home-based baking company alive. That's when I turned to Illinois's Cottage Food Law that legally allows those who want to share the love of baking and their family's recipes with others! Today Linnert Baking stands strong as a small home-based bakery!
